Dermal fillers in Chesterfield, Derbyshire

As we get older, our skin loses moisture and we see lines and wrinkles develop. Dermal fillers are used to smooth out lines and wrinkles - giving a more youthful appearance

Dermal fillers

Hyaluronic Acid (a naturally occurring sugar chain molecule that attracts and binds water in the skin) is the substance naturally present in our cells which keeps the skin smooth and supple, along with collagen and elastin. An injection of Hyaluronic Acid can restore skin volume and reduce wrinkles. The gel breaks down naturally over a period of 5 to 12 months.

The process

Soft-tissue augmentation (the use of Dermal Fillers) involves the placement of a natural or synthetic substance (made up of hyaluronic acid) into or under the skin to smooth folds, line, wrinkles, depression and scarring. At around the age of 25, the body stops producing collagen and elastin - the two proteins that work together to keep tissue firm and skin elastic, and the existing collagen in the body begins to break down. Without these two proteins, the body begins to display the typical signs of ageing as it can no longer keep tissue strong and skin supple.

Dermal fillers can be used to work in harmony with the body’s remaining collagen and elastin, supporting these all-important proteins to give skin a more full and youthful appearance. When injected with a very fine needle into the crease line, the gel creates volume under the wrinkles, lifting up and smoothing out lines. This has become a popular means of addressing contour defects that result from ageing, photo damage, trauma, scarring, or disease.

Is the treatment painful?

There can be some mild discomfort associated with treatment. During placement, a slight burning or aching sensation may be felt. If you wish, our team can use a topical anaesthetic on the treated area to minimise any discomfort. For lip augmentation, we can administer dental anesthetic to the area. For all procedures, our team only uses dermal fillers that contain anesthetic.

How do dermal fillers compare to anti-wrinkle treatments?

Dermal fillers are more invasive than anti-wrinkle treatments and there is likely to be  more swelling.

Do I need to take time off work to have the treatment?

Patients often return to work after treatment. Swelling should be expected in certain areas, but this will be discussed & explained in your pre -treatment consultation

How long does the treatment last?

Depending on your age and the area treated, you can expect to repeat the treatment twice a year. On average, the treatment will last 6-8 months. In the lip area, the treatment will last about 5-6 months. The reason for this is that there is more mechanical stress in this area; therefore, the product tends to break down more quickly.
